Price Your Services for Profit
Before you can estimate new services, you’ll want to do a lawn care pricing audit to confirm that you are making money with your current prices.

1. Track Your Time for EVERY Client
This is the most important piece of information you can have about your jobs. If you don’t know how long it took you to service the client, you don’t have any idea how much you made per hour.
You don’t sell maintained lawns. You sell hours of labor. This is the fundamental nature of every service industry business. When you have employees, you’ll be paying them by the hour.

You’ll notice I’ve sent you to multiple pricing resources. This is the most important part of estimating. If you’re estimating jobs too low, you lose money and you’ll go under. If you’re wildly guessing, you can end up with prices that are too high… go under because you can’t close jobs.
How to Customize Your FREE Lawn Care Estimate Template
Once you’ve worked out your pricing, you can worry about making your lawn care estimates beautiful and writing some winning sales copy for your estimate template.
Alright, you’ve got it downloaded, here’s how it works:
There’s room for six services on the estimate. In the table on the right, you input the relevant square footage amount. If all your services work off of turf square footage, this number could be the same all the way down the column.
There are tables on the second worksheet that compute your rate from what you provide in the “Client Size” table.
All of the service rates are added up and the total is the bolded number at the bottom of the column.
2. Customize with Company Information
On the worksheet labeled “Rate Matrix Information,” you’ll find six tables.
These tables are very simple.
Each row means from “0” to “1000” square feet the rate is “$30.” You can edit this table to include all your price breakdowns by square footage. Make sure to increase the next row’s starting value by 1 (none of the cells in a table should have the same number, it’ll break the formula).
You’ll want to also plug in your contact information, your company logo, and service names and descriptions into the sheet. In most cases, this is as easy as clicking on the relevant field and editing the text.
To add your logo, click the text box, then press “Delete” on your keyboard to get rid of it. Use these instructions about adding a photo to an Excel sheet to put your logo in the cell A1.
3. Giving a Quote and Printing for a Potential Client
Now that you’ve got your estimate template customized for your lawn care business, you’re all ready to prepare a quote for a client.
Step 1: Add Contact and Size Information
Start by creating a copy of your template. In your file explorer, right click on the template and click “Copy.” Then, in the same folder, you can right click again and click “Paste.”
Input the date, the client’s name and address, and the relevant square footage into the template.
This will automatically compute the rates on the sheet. If you don’t need to use a line (you’re quoting fewer than six services) simply delete the text from its text box and delete the formula in its rate cell.
Step 2: Tweak Sales Copy for Specific Client
You can choose to personalize the sales copy we provided (or write your own).
Step 3: Print and Send
Go to File > Print. Make sure it prints as a single page. You can select the PDF option here to save the quote as a PDF to email to the client or you can physically print and mail the quote to the potential client.
