How to Create the Best Lawn Care Business Card

Published on March 5, 2020

A great lawn care business card is an effective way to sell more work because it can be used as a referral tool that clients can give to their family and friends.

A lawn care business card is not only a great way to show your professionalism and sell more work, but it also:

  • Encourages great reviews
  • Makes you more trustworthy
  • Keeps you top of mind with your clients
  • Shows your clients you’re thinking of them (especially when you offer a referral incentive!)

There’s a many more reasons why a lawn care business card can revolutionize your business. As a result, if you’re looking for a great, sustainable way to grow your lawn care business, then you should start with creating business cards.

Now, before we dive into the best ways you can create a lawn care business card that sells more work, you first need to know when to hand it out…

You should give clients your lawn care business card when you:

  • Receive a great review
  • Receive a compliment
  • Do an outstanding job

With that said, you should NOT give your clients your business card when you:

  • Make a mistake
  • Receive a complaint
  • Apologize for an error
  • Receive a negative review

At last, you’re ready for the best part! Let’s talk about how you can create a lawn care business card that sells more work.

1. Give Your Clients a Referral Offer

Arguably one of the most important aspects of your lawn care business card, giving your clients a referral offer is vital to creating a business card that sells for you.

By giving your clients a clear Call-to-Action (CTA), they know what step you want them to take next, and they know they’re going to somehow benefit from taking that action.

Many lawn care owners shy away from providing referral offers out of fear that they can’t afford it. However, this is a common misconception. However, I'd argue that you can't afford not to provide a referral offer.

The most important question clients always ask themselves when you’re asking them to do something is, “What’s in it for me?” As a result, it’s your job to provide this benefit to them before they even have a chance to think it.

Plus, the referral offer doesn't have to be complicated either. It could be as simple as $15 off their next lawn care service or a $15 gift card for every successful referral they bring in.

It doesn’t matter what you offer for a referral. You just have to offer something (anything, really) of value to show your clients your appreciation and gives them enough incentive to refer you.

However, don't give your lawn care business card to just anyone. Only give you card to your happiest clients after they:

  • Give you a compliment
  • Write you a great review
  • Provide a positive survey response (by the way, you can easily do this in Service Autopilot)

By giving your lawn care business cards to the right clients, you can begin automatically winning more clients with referrals.

2. Make Your Lawn Care Business Card Magnetic

Think about the last time someone gave you a business card. What did you do with it?

Personally, I throw it in my wallet, and it stays there until the next time I clean my wallet when it’s bursting at the seams full of other business cards and receipts.

In contrast, when I get a magnetic business card, I put it on my fridge and use it for holding my shopping list and notes. In other words, I’m seeing those magnetic business cards EVERY day.

By printing magnetic business cards, you're giving your clients the ability to “never lose” your card. As your clients look at your own care business card every day on their fridge, they’ll be thinking of your business.

This ingenious marketing strategy can win you many clients via referrals. Plus, it’s essentially free daily marketing.

Also, keep in mind that it takes about 6-8 touches to convert a lead into a client. In other words, your magnetic lawn care business card is a great way to get new touches.

3. Highlight Your Social Media Handles and Website

You’d be surprised by how many lawn care businesses forget to list their social media handles and website on their business cards.

In the world of modern technology where everyone wants to stay connected all the time, you can’t afford to be missing out on this huge marketing opportunity.

… And if you’re not on social media, or you don’t have a website. GET IT ASAP.

At a minimum, you should be on Facebook and maybe even Instagram.

On your lawn care business card, you should be listing all of your social media handles as well as a link to your professional-looking website.

Also, if your website isn’t professional-looking (or you don't have one), consider hiring a third party to help you build a great site.

By listing your social handles and website, you're showing your clients:

  • How to connect with you.
  • Where to find out more about you.
  • Where to write reviews about your excellent lawn care service.

Bottom line: Keep up with the times, and drive traffic to your social media accounts and website through your lawn care business cards. End of story.

4. Make Your Name and Contact Information Clearly VISIBLE

As you design your new lawn care business cards, remember to keep it legible.

Your main goal is to create easily readable business cards that are professional-looking and pleasing to the eye.

While your business cards can still look pretty, your primary goal is for them to be functional.

And so, as you’re picking out a font, think bold yet simple. And as you decide on colors, make sure they’re not clashing, and that the font color doesn’t blend into the background.

Remember, you’re trying to get more clients - not win an art contest!

At the end of the day, your cards can still look awesome but also do what they’re supposed to - win you more lawn care and landscaping jobs.

5. Add Your Name to the Lawn Care Business Card

As a little extra personal touch, it helps to put a friendly face to the name. And so, if you want to add an extra personal touch, add your name to your lawn care business card to make your clients feel more connected to you and a part of your brand.

Even though it’s a little more difficult in the lawn care industry to place a specific team member’s name on your cards (as you would in other industries), you can still list your name (the business owner) on the card.

By listing your name on your business cards, you’re giving your clients a personal introduction that opens up a line of communication.

Plus, giving them your name can make them feel more a part of your company, which can help with client retention and overall relations.

Also, don’t forget! You should list your job title as “Owner” under your name, so your clients know who you are.

BONUS! Pro Tips for Handing Out Your Business Cards …

There are a number of ways you can pass out your lawn care business cards, but these are some of my favorite ways:

  • Mail them to happy clients or neighborhoods you’re trying to reach
  • Include them in handwritten anniversary, holiday, or thank you cards
  • Use your electronic copy as a cover photo on your social media profiles
  • YOU personally give them to clients after a great review or compliment
  • YOU go door-to-door to potential clients’ houses, introduce yourself, and hand them your card

These are just a mere few of the endless, brilliant ways you can begin passing out your business cards. Although, I encourage you to come up with some of your own unique ways, too!

Just remember: The more unique you are, the more memorable you are... And the more memorable you are, the more likely someone is to remember you the next time they need their lawn mowed!
