How Jacob Godar built Scooter's Lawn Care | The Profit Roadmap

Published on January 22, 2018

Jacob Godar named Scooter's Lawn Care after a nickname he received from a mentor while working at an auto body shop.

He was young and ready to work his tail off to build something for himself. He considered opening his own body shop but the high overhead, startup costs and prospect of constantly smelling like oil and Bondo dust kept him out of the car game.

Always Hustling: The Hallmark of Every Member Journey Story

What Jacob lacked in experience and startup capital he made up for by working harder and longer. He quickly built a reputation for excellent service.

Every member journey we record for The Profit Roadmap centers on hard work and grit. Nobody makes it in the service industry by half-assing or dabbling. Jacob got his mom to drive him to a Chamber of Commerce meeting as a teenager to learn how to write a business plan.

"This is new to me," he said, describing the drive he has to succeed.

His dad is a workhorse (still works for Scooter's to this day).

Jacob currently runs lawn care companies in Illinois AND Florida. Cody is particularly jealous of Jacob's ability to winter in Florida while running snow crews outside of Chicago.

The Best Way to Get Ahead in 2018
