However, many of them forget another key element that adds an extra touch to the squeaky-clean house - cleaning leave behinds.
Leave behinds are something small you leave behind after you finish a cleaning service.
These small gestures can push your services from “Pretty good... ” to “Wow! Your cleaning company is amazing!”
Before we get started, let's talk about why you should use leave behinds in your cleaning business.
When you offer cleaning services, you give 100%... But what if you want to do MORE?
Leave-behinds add that “extra 10%.” They help you stand out and constantly remind your clients of your work - even long after the house gets dirty again.
To grow your cleaning business, you need to market yourself.
Certain leave behinds make it much easier to generate “word of mouth” marketing or referrals, by impressing your clients with your attention to detail.
Simply put: A leave behind shows you care more - and in the cleaning business, passion is what counts.
When you personalize leave behinds, you add that “extra personal touch” that differentiates you from all of your competitors.
Personalized leave behinds help keep your best clients much happier (and might make it easier for you to upsell them in the future).

On your 1st visit? Always.

Here are 17 “leave behind” ideas for your cleaning business that’ll thrill your clients (without hurting your revenue):
Whether it’s a whole box for a special occasion… or just a small candy bar. Chocolate makes everyone happy.
One of my favorites? Tiny chocolate vacuum cleaners.
These are extra great because they remind clients how much they love your cleaning services!
Hand soap dispensers are one of my favorites because it’s highly relevant to the cleaning industry.
You can buy custom-made soap dispensers, put your logo on it, and attach your company card with a ribbon to make it look fancy!
Special day coming up? Say… Valentines?
Buy some roses in bulk.
You can also buy a small amount of inexpensive flowers - orchids are a favorite, and generally inexpensive - and leave one at your clients’ homes.
A personalized Calendar is great. Why? Because everyone needs one!
You can either get 12 unique photos for an expensive calendar… (get some funny professional photos taken with your team)...
… OR you can stick with a 1-page calendar, and stick your logo on the back.
You know the drill:
You can buy personalized sticky notes in bulk online at places like Inkhead. Every time your client goes to write a note, they’ll think of you!
Magnets are useful because they’re easy to get AND you can personalize them.
Slap your logo and your phone number/website on one, and you can send these out for years.
You can buy logo pens in bulk for as little as 72 cents apiece!
These are great because every time they're taking notes, they'll be thinking fondly about your cleaning company... or at least that's the goal.
It's a great idea to leave behind breath mints with a personalized note!
It can be a standard note that you give all clients - like “Welcome Home from Sunshine Cleaners!”
But if you don’t leave a note, your clients might think you’re trying to tell them something about their breath (yikes!).
Candles can get expensive, but if you buy them in bulk you might find they’re worth it.
I recommend you send these to your best clients on the Holidays.
Don’t worry too much about getting your logo on there, these are more of a gift idea - to show them how much you value them.
Toilet paper stickers are classic and incredibly cheap.
You can get a roll of these custom-made company stickers for a few dollars, and they’ll last you a long time.
Stick one on the toilet paper roll after you fold up the end. This is a nice touch to anyone who wants to feel like their home has been “pampered.”
Get some essential oils, or other fragrant liquids… Citrus and Vanilla are excellent choices.
Then, dump them in the trash. Or the garbage disposal.
… No, seriously.
You want traditionally “bad-smelling” places to make your clients say, “Oh, what is that?”
Be careful not to overpower them with the smells.
Also, make sure to ask your clients if anyone is allergic to the essential oils you’d like to use. After you’ve done that, you’re good-to-go for a trial run. Afterwards, ask your cleaning clients how they liked it!
I’ve seen some cleaning companies leave behind a signature smell after every visit, and it makes some very loyal clients.
Scent diffusers are elegant, and they smell beautiful.
Plus, these can be surprisingly inexpensive.
Put a few sticks in a small mason jar with your company label on it, and your clients will be very impressed.

Please do this 1 thing:
Add at least a $15 Referral Gift Card on the back. This way, your client will have a strong incentive to refer your services to a friend.
You’ll get a new client (for the price of a single business card)!
For when you really love your client… or if you think you might get some good online reviews if you impress them a little bit more. Try buying some Artisan soaps.
Better yet, if you can buy them in bulk (I’ve seen $2 per pound before). They smell really nice, and they can last a long time if you buy them in bulk.
Who doesn’t love sugar?
In reality, you really don’t even need to buy local sweets from a Farmer’s Market, but the idea is to get something that feels wholesome and local.
Macaroons, small jars of honey, salt water taffy, etc. - all make for great leave-behinds. They also remind your client that hey - you’re not some big, faceless corporation.
The true message you want to get across is that your cleaning business is run by people who care.
Have a clever company name, mascot or specific branded logo?
Try to leave a gift that will remind your clients of YOU!
For example, if your company name is “Clean Ducks Services” you might leave behind a rubber duck toy, with your company card attached.
Or, if you call yourself the “Busy Bee Maids,” you could leave behind sticks of honey. Get creative!
“Welcome Packets” are one of the easiest - and most powerful ways to “Wow” your new clients.
Envelopes, folders… or even binders filled with useful information on cleaning products, expectations and business cards. These will prove to your clients you’re serious about your cleaning services.
Just don’t go too far. Your clients will start to wonder if you’re “expensive,” because you created something that clearly costs $50+.
By streamlining your everyday tasks, you simultaneously save money AND time. This gives you more time to work on high-value tasks and grow your business.

Obviously, if you start leaving behind gifts, it can cost you a little bit of money, but you’ll more than make up for it on the backend.
Remember: Marketing doesn’t stop when someone becomes your client.
You need to keep selling them, reselling them and getting them excited to talk about your services.
Be creative. It’s an easy way to impress your clients, upsell existing clients and generate referrals for very little money in almost no time at all.
And of course, don’t forget to give your clients the greatest “leave behind” of them all...
